Tony joined Hampton for our first season in senior amateur football in 1959. He was by far our best player in that first season and could play centre-half or centre-forward with equal aplomb. I guess he was only about 19 then so he would have been about 85 now. RIP

I do hope we learn the lesson of the last two pre-seasons and arrange some more challenging friendlies. A succession of gentle outings against teams two tiers below us is unlikely to see us fully up to speed for the opening NS fixtures.

Les mentioned the loss against Hounslow. I was at that game -it still rankles! The Hounslow team were a couple of leagues above us and they had a couple of internationals playing. They also had reached the Amateur Cup final the previous season before to Crook Town in the replay.
