Fielding a stronger team today. Trying out different tactics.

Didn't go but 2-2 doesn't sound like a great result against lower ranked opposition...two friendlies to go now.

First half we switched to a 3-5-2 line up with Daniel and Gondoh wide left and right, Slew playing centrally with Fisher. Muir and Farrell on the bench. We dominated possession and should have been well ahead by half time but for a couple of good saves by their keeper. Second half we switched to a back four with Hines coming on for Anderson. Things quickly deteriorated with Merstham scoring and early goal. We became noticeably sloppier until Donaldson scored from close range after their keeper parried a shot from I think Fisher. Almost immediately Merstham retook the lead with a quick punt downfield which left Gray one on one with their forward. Gray was easily pushed off the ball and the forward beat Bowman with a good finish. We didn’t improve much thereafter and blushes were only saved in the last minute when their keeper fluffed a corner through his hands and Slew bundled the ball over the line. Something of a Jekyll and Hyde performance with some questions hanging over the best formation given current injuries. I wouldn’t be going into the season with Hines at right back just because of the step up in experience. So this leaves us going 3-5-2 or using one of TMR or Cole Brown as right back if TMR then we lose him in centre mid.

Forgetting that Uche could play right back also. He was missing today.

How was Nico Muir? He will see himself as the number one striker but has been disappointing in pre season when I have seen him. Hines has done well but should go out to an team a couple of leagues below and see how he gets on. Will be too lightweight in the middle without TMR. Surely cant be too difficult picking up a seasoned right back?

Muir came on for the last 20 mins or so but don’t remember any shots. Hold up play was ok. It we need to see him inside the box more. I suspect that fact that he and Farrell did not start was due to the manager not being happy with their PSF performances. Cox I would hope will be back soon so may be more a question of backfilling until he returns. Manager did say there could be a couple of more signings but no idea in which positions. Barzey has been with us all pre season but not yet signed so he might be one.
