THOSE WERE THE DAYS
25th March 2006
Isthmian (Ryman) Premier Division
HRBFC 0 Braintree Town 1 Att; 439

Matt Lovett; Graham Harper, Ryan Lake, Matt Elverson (Barrie Matthews), Rob Paris, Dean Wells, Alan Inns, Elliott Godfrey, Lawrence Yaku (Matt Seedel), Francis Quarm, Kelvin McIntosh (Dudley Gardner).
Unused Subs; Marcello Fernandes, Brian Connor.

Hampton had never beaten Braintree in a league encounter and perhaps if Elverson’s two efforts in the first half hadn’t been well saved by Danny Gay perhaps the Beavers may have broken that particular voodoo. Braintree survived a torrid first half to maintain their charge to Conference South. Rain started to fall during the half time interval making for difficult conditions in the second half. Gradually Braintree wrested control of the game and with a little over ten minutes to go, from a cleared corner, James Hawes hit a swerving shot that Lovett couldn’t stop. With seconds left in the game Wells won a corner, up came keeper Lovett in support and it was he that got in the final shot but it was just inches wide of the target.
