THOSE WERE THE DAYS

15th May 1998
Middlesex Charity Cup Final
Hampton 2 (Moore, Gallagher) Waltham Abbey 1 (@Uxbridge FC)

Mark Russell; Warren Drew, Darren Powell, Nick Burton (John Crouch, 46’), Steve Cheshire, Barry Moore (Craig Reilly, 43’), Ian Savage, Phil Gallagher, Andy Gray, Nigel Thompson (Francis Vines, 70’), Robin Lewis.

Hampton were overwhelming favourites in this Middlesex Charity Cup Final and hardly had to get out of first gear to win at Uxbridge’s ground. Waltham’s young keeper Peter Thorpe came under heavy pressure from the start, blocking a shot from Gray with his legs and having to deal with some nervy back passes from his defenders. Moore struck for Hampton in the 14th minute, given too much space by Waltham’s defenders, he struck a shot from the edge of the penalty area. Gallagher made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute, Savage’s free kick was knocked down into Gallager’s path by Cheshire. Cheshire had a goal ruled out for offside before Waltham pulled one back through substitute, Uzao Agbasonu, in the 75th minute. Hampton held on to win the Charity cup, their second win in seven finals.

Les, was this the game in which Dean Green played against us? He had a good game and was signed shortly afterwards.

Yes Dean Green was playing for them. We didn't sign him until the start of the 2000/01 season, from Dulwich Hamlet. Debut, 16/09/2000
