Think this was a possibility before season started. Let’s wait to see how Jules reacts.

Don’t mean much we are already in the bottom position in the league table!
As some feared, it was the difference in physicality that told in the end. First half was pretty even and we played some decent football but as the half wore on Hornchurch got on top and our possession game started to break down. Half time didn’t really change things too much with Hornchurch dominating possession and us hitting longer and more hopeful balls. We didn’t have an outlet ball and Babajide on for Wall was not having the desired effect. Their equaliser was poor defending and a seconded followed quickly after some indecisive defending from Gray. Their third rather exemplified our problem as the Hornchurch player ran a good 40 Yards without a challenge to pull the ball back for a well taken goal. Second half we managed only one shot, a Babajide header over the bar. Sorondo and Campbell were our outstanding players. Revan went off injured early on with Archy Taylor coming on. The centre backs had a couple of shaky moments and others rather faded under the Hornchurch pressure.
My thoughts.
First half was good. Kris and Jayden combining well down the left hand side, Odei being a great pivot in the centre. Robbo being very tricky. Alex Wall surprisingly good facing the opposition as well as with his back to them. Generally good short interchanges with runners. Nice.
Second half. So, there’s this fallacy that when you’re leading you need to tell each other to “stay calm”. “Stay calm” is a very passive instruction. Instead, what you need to do is “get busy”, be even sharper, play short sharp balls. Staying calm, as strange as it seems, is actually bad game management. But that’s what we went for and became passive. Our defensive line dropped, our passes got longer. We lost second balls because we were on the back foot. Their players skipped past us in transition without being fouled. And we completely lost our forward momentum.
I do like the balance of this team. And in the first half, I thought we played really well. And if we play like that it’ll be a good season.
But oh my days, if we show the naïveté of that second half, things could spiral.

For all the Hornchurch goals, we left the goal scorer with far too much space.Adam wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 11:43 pm Hornchurch have the goals up.
