THOSE WERE THE DAYS
19th October 1982
Isthmian (Servowarm) League Division 1

Hampton 8 (Shodeinde 4, Bassett 2, Heselden 2) Maidenhead United 2 Att;130

Hampton ;-
Paul Riley; Peter Bartlett, Tim Hollands, Richard Smith, Steve Smith, John Chilvers, Perry Tunesi, Peter Shodeinde, Mick Heselden, Duncan Bassett, Steve Giddings.
Sub; Mark Cobb

At the time, this was Hampton’s highest Isthmian League victory (eclipsed by the 11-1 demolition of Eastbourne United in May 1991). Possession wise, both sides were relatively equal but the visitors were unable to stem the tide of goals that swept over them. At the half time stage Hampton were 3-0 ahead thanks to goals from Heselden (2), and Bassett. The game really went quite mad after half-time with seven goals scored by the two teams. Shodeinde scored his four goals during that period with Bassett adding his second, having also contributed to several goals. Maidenhead though were never completely out of the contest, Steve Cordery scored for the visitors to make it 6-1, just five goals in arrears (!) Richard North scored their second, whilst Benny Laryea, twice and John Dempsey also went close to adding goals for the Magpies. Must have been great entertainment for those at Beveree that Tuesday night.
