THOSE WERE THE DAYS
18th March 1972

Athenian League Division 2

Hampton 1 (Farren, pen) Windsor & Eton 1

Hampton;-
Ron Whiteaker; Alan Earl, Dave Blackmore, Ken Reed, Steve Markham, Ian Wenlock, Peter Farren, Micky Roach, Johnny Eales, Peter Allen, Jeff Sillett.
Sub; Hugh Lindsay

Having looked as if they were going to swamp Windsor with a torrent of goals, Hampton ended the game somewhat relieved to have picked up a point in their hunt for a promotion place. Having somehow survived the attacking forces of Hampton it was somewhat of a surprise when Windsor took the lead in the 58th minute. A neatly worked goal it was to, Barry Hill, from the right side, crossed the ball to his brother Mickey, who deceived Markham by stepping over the ball and allowing it to run to J Squires, who side-footed the ball home. A few minutes later came the equaliser thanks to a pull back on Farren. Farren netted his 28th goal of the season from the penalty spot. Hampton manager, Roy Philpott, was still upbeat about Hampton’s promotion prospects, however they would miss out by a single point!
