Whilst the Hampton Treasurer was counting the takings from a bumper crowd for the visit of Brentford, the Bees were showing no mercy to Hampton, Division 2, Isthmian (Diadora) League. Brentford won at a canter, and were 4-0 up by half-time. In the 11th minute Barry Asby headed in Martin Grainger’s corner, the second goal came from the same combination. Grainger scored from the spot in the 25th minute and then just before the interval, Nick Forster laid on a goal for Brian Statham. Early in the second half, Robert Taylor was substituted off (at Referee Keegan’s request) after he lashed out at Maloney. Forster picked up the slack and scored three goals in a fifteen-minute spell. Hampton were reliant on their keeper, Russell, to keep the score within bounds. The large group of Brentford fans went happy – but not as happy as the home club’s Treasurer!

That's an extremely strong Brentford side, with only Jamie Southon, who was on the bench, and had a decent Non League career, the only one not to make any first team appearances.
