Hampton extended their recent good form with a comfortable victory at Harefield. The opening half hour had little to get excited about apart from when Thompson forced Dave Carlisle into a save. Hampton took the lead in the 37th minute. Rattue scoring his first goal for the club, neatly bending a free-kick around the Harefield wall and into the bottom right-hand corner. Five minutes into the second half, McPherson contrived to shoot over the bar from a good position (McPherson, of course did spend ten years as Hampton’s Chairman – and is currently Vice-Chairman of Chertsey Town). Harefield were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute, which was saved by Hook. In the 72nd minute Kuhne laid on a goal for Thompson, and then five minutes later scored the third from Dalton’s cross.
All season long, Hampton struggled to get out of the bottom half of the table, eventually finishing 12th, out of 22, and, following re-organisation of Divisions 2 (South) and (North), slipped into a newly formed, Division 3 the following season.

An enjoyable period of our history, if not the greatest. Hook, Dicko, Rattue and Kuhne were all good excellent players. To be honest I don't really remember Steve McPherson being anything more than a mainly reserve player who was occasionally called up to the first team, without ever letting anyone down. Happy to be proved wrong of course!
