An all-ticket crowd - new ground attendance record – West Ham’s First Team Squad, and the sun was shining, couldn’t have been better! The Hammers stopped off on their way to their North American pre-season tour before flying out the next morning. It was all thanks to the friendship between the two managers – Alan Devonshire and Alan Curbishley. An entertaining game developed and it was an employee of West Ham who opened the scoring. A dipping volley by Quarm beat Robert Green, all-ends up. Almost immediately Craig Bellamy hit back from just inside the penalty area. Just before half-time Mark Noble was set up by a cushioned header by Bellamy to put the Hammers 2-1 up. Bellamy scored his second when he got clear of the close marking of Wells on the hour. Hampton hit back through their veteran striker, Yaku, a super strike that flew past West Ham’s substitute keeper, Jimmy Walker. Late on Zavon Hines made it 4-2. Young autograph hunters had a field day!
