Gary has signed a new three year contract which we all hope will give the club some stability and an opportunity to build upon the work so far.

Yes, great news. Starting off in difficult circumstances, Gary did really well to stabilise the club after the last lot's mass departure. Were it not for this pandemic we might well have gone up and must be due another bash at the playoffs. It's good to see such commitment these days and hopefully the majority of his squad will follow his lead in wanting to stay.

Agree with Lord E. Hoping the majority of the squad remain to give us a memorable centenary season. We all had to miss so much football in the last couple of seasons.

Not sure what a three year contract really means these days. If the manager wants to leave for another club or the club wants to replace the manager due to poor results, the issue is what is the compensation to be paid. You don’t want to be in the position having to pay up a contract in full with a number of years still to run. Rarely do you get adequate compensation if the manager wants to leave as you get stuck with an unhappy unmotivated employee. Typically contracts have a three month notice period either way so having a three year contract is probably more a statement of intent rather than a fixed commitment. Gary and his team are clearly well liked around the club so all good stuff. The bigger issue as ever will be what budget the club can provide to support a three year “commitment.”

The points you make Tony are quite valid and we are not privy to the detail within the contract that might contain clauses that you mention. Notwithstanding this, it is a good move on the club’s behalf to get some continuity into the playing side of the club.
Gary’s record suggests he is not a ‘club hopper ‘ so that also may give some form of comfort.

Great news, even just from a continuity point of view.
