Beavers hosted a young Crystal Palace XI, eventually losing 3-2 in this pre-season friendly. Roberts put Hampton ahead in the 9th minute, Ammon Bissaka equalising two minutes later. Both sides went close to taking the lead, Harris shooting over the bar when well-placed, Tyler Tobin, for the Eagles, hitting the post, the ball running along the goal line before being cleared. Midway through the second half, Jason Akiotu put Palace ahead but then Adcock levelled thing up in the 79th minute. Palace had the final word minutes later when Ben Wynter volleyed home.

Wynter would play for HRBFC in 2017/18, later Torquay United and Barnet. Amongst the young Eagles (Eaglets?) were Andrew Coker (Maidstone & Dartford), Corie Andrews (Wealdstone) and Ollie O’Dwyer (Aldershot Town).
