THOSE WERE THE DAYS
October 9th 1984
Isthmian League Cup (Hitachi) 1st Round
Hampton 1 Kingstonian 2 Att; 179
Fraser

Chris Vagg; Fred Wilson (Paul Couch, 83), Malcolm Dickenson, Steve Rogers, Richard Smith, Gavin Fraser, Steve Russell, Mark Wilson, Tim Hollands, John Hales, Perry Tunesi.

Kingstonian progressed into the second round of the Hitachi Cup, despite an improved performance by Hampton producing no reward. Kingstonian’s David Byrne had several opportunities early in the game to set up scoring opportunities. Ks had a lucky escape in the 12th minute when Hales shot wide when well placed. Hampton took the lead just before half time, Dickenson set up Russell for a shot on goal with Fraser netting the rebound off goalkeeper Graham Yates. Moments later Fraser had another opportunity thanks to a pass from Tunesi but he volleyed wide with only Yates to beat. Against the run of play, Kingstonian equalised, Ian Anderson pumped a long ball forward, Byrne beating Vagg from a narrow angle. Ks winner came late on from a penalty after Jester Williams was hacked down in full flight and Armstrong sent Vagg the wrong way to win the contest.
