THOSE WERE THE DAYS
October 18th 1997
F A Trophy 1st Round
Hampton 0 Wokingham Town 1 Att; 217

Mark Russell; Barry Moore, John Crouch, Darren Powell, Steve Cheshire (Robin Lewis, 77’), Peter Wood, Craig Reilly, Mark Wilson (Warren Drew, 60’), Francis Vines (Tony Sibanda,77’), David Pearce, Baron Jolly.

Seven days after having beaten Wokingham 4-3 away in a league game, Hampton succumbed at home to Wokingham in a F A Trophy fixture. Reported as a lacklustre display, apparently Hampton never got going until the second half when they started to create enough chances to at least secure a draw. The visitors scored the only goal of the game just after half-time. The failure to clear from a corner allowed Gary Smith to hammer the ball past Russell. Hampton woke up, but chances went begging; Vines, Pearce and Cheshire all going close to scoring. In the dying moments of the game Reilly saw his shot come back of the post. Just one of those days.
