THOSE WERE THE DAYS
October 30th 1999
Isthmian (Ryman) League Premier Division
HRBFC 0 Canvey Island 2 Att; 237

James Courtnage; Andy Walker, Chris Currie, Tony Cleeve, Nick Burton, Jason Shaw, Ben Forey, Dudley Gardner, Martin Carter, Darren Adams (Martin Buglione, 55), Craig Maskell.

Unused subs; Nazeem Bashir, Danny Rouco

Beavers Manager, Steve Cordery, was without Peter Barnsby, Fiston Mputu and Julian Charles, so debuts were given to Currie and Cleeve. Despite having the wind at their backs in the first half, Hampton seemed unable to make any headway. Forey had a couple of decent efforts, Adams and Gardener were both denied by Canvey keeper, Harrison. Canvey benefited from an increase in wind strength in the second half. Steve Tilson scored twice in three minutes, pouncing on a rebound in the 54th minute and then lashing in the ball when a defensive header dropped at his feet – right place, both times. The nearest to a response from the home side came late on from the substitute Buglione, who forced his way through a crowd of players only for Harrison to save with his legs.
