THOSE WERE THE DAYS
14th November 1959
Middlesex Senior Cup 2nd Qualifying Round
Wingate 1 Hampton 5
Dowling 3, D Cooper, Wigley

Brian Farmer; Gerry Biggs, Ivor Griffin, Walter Lindsey, Tony Carroll, Alan Duddy, Jakie Cooper, Joe Dowling, Alan Wigley, Dennis Cooper, Johnny Myers.

Hampton were several months into their first season in Senior football and changes to the team were happening. Farmer was now the regular keeper, Biggs, right back, Wigley, centre forward, Dennis Cooper, inside left and Wigley, outside left. Long serving player Alan Duddy had been moved to left-half. The match at Wingate was their fifth away match on the trot. Prior to the game, Wingate FC had said that they had never heard of Hampton FC – that certainly changed by the end of a 90-minute mauling. A hat-trick by Dowling, a goal by Wigley and a spectacular overhead kick by Dennis Cooper saw them into the last leg of the preliminary rounds of the Middlesex Senior Cup.
