THOSE WERE THE DAYS
4th January 1992
Isthmian League (Diadora) Division 3
Hampton 4 Hertford Town 2 Att; 163
Hollands 2, Bates, Amissah

David Hook; Brian Bere, Simon Edwards, Malcolm Dickenson, Steve Cheshire, Tim Hollands, Fred Amissah, Steve Bates, Gary Jenkins (Roland Terry, 46), Gary Ewing, Matt Downs.
Unused Sub; Gary Cope

A pulsating six goal match ended in Hampton’s favour after a gritty performance by the Beavers. Twice Hampton fell behind before ending up taking the points. Graham Golds gave the visitors the lead, Bates equalising on the half-hour. Bates kept the score level when he headed an effort off the line but on the stroke of half-time, David Whitehead scored from an acute angle. Early in the second half Hollands headed in a Terry long throw – a speciality of the Hampton substitute. In the 73rd minute another Hollands header – this time from a Bere cross, at last edged Hampton ahead. Hampton wrapped up the scoring after six minutes of injury time. Receiving the ball thirty yards from goal, Amissah, breezed past a defender and let fly a curling shot that was a worthy winner of a magnificent end-to-end clash.
