Couldn't be there today but I had a feeling something like that might happen. We await the summer rebuild...

The manager put a positive spin in his post match comments in what could easily have been a totally humiliating scoreline. In the end 4-2 had a cloak of respectability but the game was over after 10 minutes as woeful defending handed Dorking the game. We looked in trouble from the off with no real height in the side to combat the likely aerial onslaught, but I think most supporters would have hoped that we would have lasted more than a minute before conceding. We failed to defend a long throw and after a bit of comedy defending Carter got his first of three goals from close range. His second came just a minute later as we stood off and allowed him to shoot from the edge of the box. His third was another good finish as Revan tamely chested the ball to him on the edge of the area. Poor Dom Revan was bullied throughout by Prior and their fourth came after Revan lost an aerial challenge allowing Rutherford to run through to score. Revan limped off at the start of the second half to be replaced by Jeffcott who himself got injured and Harry Gardner ended up at centre back with Atkinson. By then both sides had made plenty of substitutions as the game was long since over, Dorking having a key game at Worthing on Monday, not needing to take any risks. Roberts' penalty clawed back some respectability and in truth we did show a bit more fight in the second half. Jalloh's late solo effort allowed us to finish on a higher note. Nothing really hinged on the game for us and we are obviously short of fit defenders. I am just thankful we didn't have to ask Les to get his record books out again.

When you saw the team sheet with the lack of height then playing against the likes of Prior and Rutherford then you knew we would be in trouble. It is significant that when Atkinson has been pressed into central defence then we lose heavily as we miss his shielding of the back four. Well at least we cannot be relegated! What sort of team we field on Monday is anyone’s guess!

Interesting comments from Alan.
He emphasised that the top eight teams in our league are superior to the rest due to budget size etc. He hinted that next season we might be looking to close the gap, but let’s wait and see! Of these eight teams six will still be around next season plus what is relegated and promoted. If this happens then recruitment and retention of players will soon give an indication as to where we are aiming!
Wiltshire might be fit for Monday
