That was much better.
Defending was much more proactive. Much more energy all around.
There were other changes of emphasis, but without Widdrington the centre of midfield looked much more dynamic. Having Max back in there was great too, he leads by such a great example.
Dowse has blamed counter attacks and set pieces for the goals we’ve conceded, and that’s true. But once your defence is more dynamic in general play, like it was last night, it puts you on the front foot.
I thought it was a good move to have Tobi and Max Mullins working together up front too, instead of relying on the wings (though we did well there later when the game opened up). Having two out and out wingers in previous games made our centre weak (nothing wrong with two wingers if everybody works together, but with our centre having been a bit flaky it didn’t help) Tobi and Max supported each other and were enough to make our attack dynamic.
It was just more solid all around. Mike Atkinson and Ben Jackson were superb too.
There’s still a way to go. We give the ball away too much, and our shooting could do with more composure, but at least we’re on the right track now. Well done to the coaching staff for the work that’s gone into this. At least there’s a little light at the end of the tunnel.

I don't often agree with Spencer Day, but he was right in that down to 10 men Farnborough had as much if not more of the possession and worked really hard to close us down. Their shooting was thankfully usually off target and they wasted good dead ball situations with poor delivery. Our chances largely came on the break with Hassan being very dangerous down the left in the second half and we should have put things to bed quicker than we did. Max K missed a complete sitter from about 10 yards blasting over the bar. Mather may lack in certain areas but he seems a more instinctive finisher than Sho-Silva and wonder if he should be given a chance at CF rather than as a wide man. Given how leaky our defence has been to date I just wonder how we would have responded if Farnborough got a late equaliser. Plus points were Mullins at CF, much more pace and prepared to run into space and pressurise the CBs. He ended up playing in about three different positions as well. Midfield without Widdrington was better and Max K played a little deeper than usual which worked well. With injuries to Dedje and Barrett we may need some reinforcements for Saturday but I would resist bringing Widdrington back into the starting XI. Chelmsford will not be easy opposition and will be more ruthless with what chances they create,

So how many times does a team need to come into your box before it is ok for them to score Spencer? And don't your side try to score the first time they go into an opponents box?
The utter drivel some managers speak makes you wonder if their teams actually achieve results despite them rather than because of them.

Thought it was easily the best performance we've seen from Hassan too. Whether it was Farnborough being poor or him being great is up for debate but he dribbled past defenders pretty easily. Should've had a second assist as well if Max didn't blaze it over the bar.

Chelmsford are also unbeaten this season. 7 games, 1 win 6 draws.

Apparently Mather is primarily a winger. Played that position at St Albans. Mullins looked great at CF and transitioned to midfield once Max came off.

Haha, I wouldn't count on it...manager interviews these days don't reflect reality at all. So many just tell you that there are "plenty of positives to take" from that 6-0 defeat, etc.
