I would suggest that Alan Massey, having played for Dev, adopted his mantra of putting the player in the position that he is most comfortable with.....left back at left back etc...It worked for Dev for all those years.

Our goals scored at strategic times, just before half time and with 7 minutes to go, both excellent finishes from Grego-Cox and Gardner. We were rather overrun in midfield in the second half and Totton should perhaps have got level but for some good last ditch defending and saves from Rowley. Can’t say we’ve turned a corner yet but something to build on. We really can’t continue with two in midfield and five at the back. I would go 4-4–1-1 or 4-5-1.
For much of the first half our midfield seemed to be a void. Deadfield was playing very deep when we didn't have the ball (literally just in front of the centre backs) and we didn't seem to close the opposition down as they advanced through the space. I found that quite difficult to watch but we seemed to have more energy after the goal and I thought we got better in that area as the game went on. Central midfield does seem to be a problem but perhaps would be less so if Atkinson and Ince were available.

Re the midfield not having a ball winner has been the major problem this season. Atkinson can do that, we need him back to last seasons form. Regarding Ince we just can't plan anything around him. The unjury is sad and obviously he's a great player when fit but this has ram for seasons now. We took a gamble on him and it hasn't worked.

Indeed. It really isn't rocket science is it?
