I hope that Jules goes into the season with a similar 11 but Bumi upfront, he seems a real gemSparky wrote: Sat Aug 03, 2024 9:38 pm I enjoyed that. I think Jules has done a grand job in the few weeks he’s had with most of these players.
Weren’t positive enough in the first half. But in the second, he got them looking to break lines.
It’s still going to be hard. And I hope we don’t end up suffering from big man up top syndrome, whereby he becomes the only option when we’re under pressure.
But there was already more respect than last year for keeping the ball while moving it up the pitch.
Enjoyed seeing No. 8. Is it Josh? Had a very tidy way of progressing the ball in the middle of the park.

I imagine the kit worn in pre season is last seasons Academy/Youth kit, as the numbers are not National League font, which is required to be worn during league games.EastTerracer wrote: Sat Aug 03, 2024 10:34 pm I think all players bar Alex Wall were wearing a subtly different designed shirt from last season which I assume is the new kit. The shirt numbers have a more modern font and I am not sure if the club crest is still integrated into the fabric design. Alex Wall's looked to be last year's shirt so perhaps the larger sizes have not yet arrived !!
Also the back sponsor "UNCOMMON" isn't that one of the investors, who has since pulled out?
Think that was Odei. Liked him too. Looked kind of bossy. Would be good to have a bossy central midfield this yearTW10 wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2024 9:36 am I enjoyed watching the little centre mid buzzing around always wanting to be on the ball like a non league Paul Scholes..again I have no idea of his name for the reasons already mentioned.

Ah OK, that could well be it, didn't know the NL numbers had a mandated design. Could also be right about UNCOMMON. Their name was on a hoarding behind the goal which was placed in front of one from Movember. It didn't seem to be permanent fixture though as half of it fell down during the game. Quite a few new 'Support by Premier League' signs up around the ground. Perhaps those are required this season.Jamie wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2024 9:51 amI imagine the kit worn in pre season is last seasons Academy/Youth kit, as the numbers are not National League font, which is required to be worn during league games.EastTerracer wrote: Sat Aug 03, 2024 10:34 pm I think all players bar Alex Wall were wearing a subtly different designed shirt from last season which I assume is the new kit. Not sure but possibly those signs are a requirement if we have benefitted from a grant from the Premier League Stadium Fund https://premierleaguestadiumfund.co.uk/national-leagueEastTerracer wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2024 10:07 am Quite a few new 'Support by Premier League' signs up around the ground. That page shows Blyth Spartans having the same sign as is now at the Bev.
Maybe we have applied for a floodlight grant - although that appears to be under a separate similar scheme https://premierleaguestadiumfund.co.uk/ ... light-fund
Thought the team played well yesterday and with a bit of luck could have had a couple more goals. Looked as though we have signed several tricky ball players who could give some defences this season the run around. Suspect we might still find it difficult to score goals but at least the team seems to be shaping up in the right way. After the doom and gloom earlier in the close season was pleasantly surprised with what the team had to offer. As win on Saturday would help to steady player and supporter nerves for the season ahead. Bishop's Stortford were a National League side last season so the team had a good workout yesterday.

A few thoughts on the game and comments. Bishop’s Stortford were relegated last season and I understand they have had quite a change round in players, yesterday they fielded several trialists.
Having watched the Chertsey game it was an opportunity to see how players performed against stronger opponents. The back four look the most likely to start the season and they coped well against a couple of big and fast forwards. Midfield looked better balanced than before and number 8 was impressive and got the goal. We played with two wide players with Wall central, agree with another comment that his replacement looked more mobile.
The big test is when the league starts, will this team be able to avoid relegation? I am realistic to know currently that playoffs is unrealistic.
One other point, hope that next week there will be hot drinks and hot food other than pizza available!

I think the subs that came on were Bunmi, Archy Taylor and Mike Atkinson.
Matchday information and media comms from the club definitely at a lower level than we are used to for this match. I saw Louis was there but maybe other team members were on holiday which caused the problem. Still, it's a pity everyone is struggling to identify all our new players.
