THOSE WERE THE DAYS
5th January 2008

Football Conference (Blue Square) South

HRBFC 4 (Godfrey 2 pens, Hodges 2) Welling United 0 Att; 516

Matt Lovett; Graham Harper (Marcello Fernandes,68), Barrie Matthews, Orlando Jeffrey, Rob Paris, Dean Wells, Stuart Lake, Elliott Godfrey, Ian Hodges, Shaun McAuley (Elliott Frost, 73’), Kelvin McIntosh (Glen Harris, 80).
Unused Subs; Ryan Lake, Dudley Gardner

One of those games when the first half did not give any clues about what was likely to happen in the second. The first half was a stop, start affair with Welling harrying Hampton at every stage with consequently a myriad of free kicks. It would appear that the referee Steven Phipps had had enough of a frustrating game and got his cards out in the second half, sending Welling’s Chris Moore off and awarding Hampton two penalties. In the 54th minute a McIntosh through ball put Godfrey in the clear, Jamie Turner came out to block but only succeeded in bringing Godfrey down. Godfrey placed the spot kick to Turner’s left. A couple of minutes later Moore received two cautions in less than a minute, the second for a foul in the penalty area. Godfrey hit the second penalty for a 2-0 lead. Hampton were now in control f the game. It was Hodges who wrapped up the game with two headed goals in less than a minute, in the 84th & 85th minutes. Both goals were scored when Hodges stole in, unseen. Classic poaching!
