THOSE WERE THE DAYS
15th March 1969
Middlesex Senior Cup Semi-Final

Enfield 7 Hampton 1 (Allen) Att; 194

Enfield;-
Ian Taylor; G Sedgley, P Fry, J Payne, L Commons, Jimmy Quail, Roger Day, John Connell, Ray Hill, J Adams, Peter Feeley.

Hampton;-
Joe Andrews; Alan Earl. Dave Johnson, Dave Richards, Graham Belcher, Peter Kelly, Arthur Rowlands, Peter Dove, Peter Allen, Dave King, Keith Wellham.

Hampton ran into what in the 1960s was the juggernaut that was Enfield in trying to get into the Middlesex Senior Cup Final…..and were seriously slapped down. Enfield went ahead in the 24th minute, a dribble by John Connell found Ray Hill in space and his shot went through Andrews’s legs. Five minutes later Hill repaid the favour as Connell headed in the second. Two further goals by Connell saw Hampton 4-0 down at half-time and effectively out of the contest. After surviving a number of close shaves Hampton got a goal back in the 53rd minute, a Rowlands cross-field pass was struck home by Allen. Connell continued to dominate the game, he scored Enfield’s fifth, Hill scored the sixth and Roger Day made it seven with a late penalty, apparently his 100th for the club. Enfield went on to thrash Wembley 6-0 in the final.
