The Middlesex Senior Cup Final might have been regarded as a distraction to the Beavers in their quest for a top five place in Blue Square Conference South, but try telling that to the players as they collected their medals and held the trophy aloft. McAuley led the way with two excellent goals. In the 25th minute, McAuley received the ball from a throw-in, turned inwards and unleashed a shot into the far corner. With thirteen minutes of the contest to go, McAuley struck again, this time a determined run down the right side and a low drive beat Luke Blackmore. The third goal came a minute from time, Harper on as a substitute for the final six minutes, scored with his third attempt in that time. Adequate revenge for Hampton’s 5-1 loss to Hendon in the 1972 Final, played over two legs.
