As Hampton had only garnered two points from the previous twelve matches and going a goal down after 31 minutes, it looked odds-on another defeat. This time though, Hampton showed a little more spirit and fought back to get a draw thanks to an exceptional goal from Cook. Ten minutes in and Cook had a chance to open the scoring but shot over the bar. On the half-hour, Hertford took the lead, an attack down the right led to a cross by Brooks which was neatly stabbed home by Myatt. Instead of pressing on Hertford’s players eased off, seemingly over-confident of winning the game. Hertford kept up their robust tactics but were caught out by Cook’s equaliser on the hour. Kitchener and Earl exchanged passes down the right before Earl headed into the midfield, a defender intercepted Earl’s cross but headed the ball in the direction of Cook who lashed out instantly, the ball sped like a rocket, hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced down over the line. Hampton should have won the game in the last minute but Nicks, with only Abbey to beat, sent his shot wide.
