..16th May is Middlesex Day. The date recalls the Battle of Albuhera when the Middlesex Regiment fought against Napoleon's forces on the Spanish/Portuguese border. The County of Middlesex was absorbed into Greater London in 1965 but still exists as a postal county and can be used as a component of postal addresses.

Without wishing to split hairs, it was only Middlesex County Council (which covered approximately 1/3 of the County of Middlesex) which was absorbed into Greater London in 1965; but the County of Middlesex was not and remains in existence as one of the 92 Historic (or "Proper") Counties of the UK, just not one that is used for local government administration any longer.

One thing is for certain: Richmond was never part of it!
