THOSE WERE THE DAYS
12th August 2014
Isthmian (Ryman) League Premier Division
HRBFC 1 (Moone 19’,) Wingate & Finchley 4 (Sogbanmu 15’, Shulton 48’, Knight 75’, 87’) Att;269
HRBFC;-
Wayne Carter; Tommy Brewer, Matthew Steer, Jesse Kewley-Graham, Billy Jeffreys, Max Hustwick, Luke Wanadio (Richard Butler,77’), Karle Carder (Billy Adcock, 64’), Ben Harris, Charlie Moone, Jerome Federico (MICHAEL Bryan, 64’).
Unused Subs; Reece Brewster, Gareth Chendlik.
Wingate & Finchley;-
Bobby Smith; Mark Goodman, Ronayne Marsh-Brown, Ola Sogbanmu, Kieron Street, James Kaloczi, David Knight (Stuart Lake, 90’), Tommy Tejan-Sie, Rob Laney, Scott Shulton (Paul Wright, 87’), Karl Olivide (Leon Fisher, 67’).
Subs Unused; Marcus Rose, Niko Muir
Hampton welcomed back their former player, Stuart Lake, who had recently departed the club and joined Wingate & Finchley as player/coach. By the end of the game, Hampton would probably have wished Stuart had joined someone else, after suffering a 4-1 reverse. The Beavers were always playing catch-up, going behind in the 15th minute when Ola Sogabanmu side-footed, Karl Olivide’s pass. A few minutes later Harris won a penalty, Moone stepped up to take it, Bobby Smith initially saved the spot kick but couldn’t prevent Moone’s follow-up. Both teams were looking for goals, Smith saved efforts by Harris, Mooen and Wanadio. Carter saved from a David Knight effort before Steer got in a vital block. The second half – think, wheels fell off. Scott Shulton scored from a pull-back; David Knight hit a curling shot past Carter; Knight then scored his second when he ghosted in between two defenders. During this period Hampton twice saw goal-bound efforts kicked off the line by covering defenders! Stuart Lake came on for the last minute or so, making a cameo appearance, Wingate didn’t even need the services of Niko Muir to hand Hampton a bit of a spanking.
