Hampton made heavy weather of getting past Southall into the Charity Cup Quarter-Final, despite having a two-goal advantage by half-time, Southall came back and forced the match into a penalty shoot-out. Ten minutes before the break the Beavers took the lead when Charles coolly applied the finish to a cross by Roberts. A few minutes later it was 2-0, Charles again was the scorer, the provider was Soganile with a cross from the left. Southall struck back with two goals in a seven-minute spell. The first was a slice of luck for Southall when Bennett’s cross got caught up in the wind, struck the far post and ended up in the back of the net. The second came after Henry sliced a clearance straight to Morgan who sent the ball back past the onrushing keeper. Both teams had a chance to settle the game in normal time, however the game went to penalties. Wassmer scored his penalty, Henry saved Morgan’s attempt, 1-0; Solomon scored as did Louth, 2-1; Kamara scored, Henry saved Long’s kick, 3-1; Kiernan had the chance to seal the result, which he did by lashing the ball high into the top corner, 4-1. The Beavers would beat Enfield Borough in the quarter-final but would lose out in the semis to Hanworth Villa.
