Bracknell Town Under 18s 2-2 Hampton & Richmond Borough Under 18s
Bottom Meadow, Sandhurst Memorial Ground
Friday, 27th February 2026, 19:45 Kick-off
Isthmian Youth League, West Division
Pre-Match/Overview
Having finished work in Staines at 5pm on this Friday afternoon I made my way over to Feltham Road, Ashford, to pick up the first team's matchday programmes for Saturday’s fixture against Eastbourne Borough. Tommy Rance met Casey Jones in Sunbury then kindly drove to the printers in Ashford to pick me up, on Chattern Road, and we made our way along the M3 and into Sandhurst. I wouldn't easily have been able to take the train and walk with the big box of programmes, so I was very grateful for the lift. In terms of Under 18s news, striker Tyler Andrew-Flower had represented Spelthorne Sports' first team on Tuesday night, appearing from the bench in a narrow 5-4 defeat for the Sports at Colliers Wood United. One of our Under 19s players, Endijs Sinakaus, joined Andrew-Flower on the bench and also made an appearance for Myles Hook’s Spelthorne side.
The well-informed Tommy advised me that tonight's showdown between Bracknell Town and Hampton was not the first game to be played at Bottom Meadow today: Aldershot Town's Under 19s had hosted Woking during the afternoon, in a National League Youth Alliance Division F fixture, which Woking won 2-1 courtesy of a penalty kick in the sixth minute of stoppage time (there would be another late goal from a set piece on the ground tonight…) Anyway, having parked in a nearby car park we made our way to the turnstiles, only to be informed that the car park closes at 10pm on the dot! Tommy moved to another nearby car park at half time, just to be on the safe side. Jack Pinsent was also in attendance and the four of us conducted a walkaround of the ground. The perimeter fence, all of the seating and much of the infrastructure is painted black, which makes the ground very dark, especially at night with trees lining two sides of the pitch. Another obvious feature of the ground is the huge dugouts, around 15 seats in a single row in each dugout, more than enough for Hampton this evening, with only Steve Bates, Anthony Weir and five substitutes in the technical area. Joe Wells, son of former Hampton centre-back Dean, was on the bench for the hosts.
First Half
Hampton wore their all-royal blue away kit, with Lucius Russel between the sticks wearing the all-yellow 2024/25 kit (Movember sponsor), as Hampton shot towards the southern end of the ground, furthest from the turnstiles. Robin Moseley had joined us to make five travelling Beavers fans in our group. Our hosts wore red and black striped shirts, black shorts and black socks. Their goalkeeper, Lyall Kennedy, wore a fluorescent green top with black shorts and black socks. Captained by Ruben Verzuu, Bracknell Town enjoyed most of the possession in the early exchanges, although a half chance was presented to Hampton following a late tackle by home forward, Rohineesh Sandhu. Joel Doherty ran along the right and whipped the ball in towards Kai Cooper, but he couldn’t connect properly with it. It started to rain lightly in the 11th minute of the game, so we made our way from the open standing on the western (dugout) side of the ground, past several young Bracknell Town supporters behind the goal, to the covered terracing along the eastern stand. To their credit Bracknell’s youth had turned up in good number and displayed a large banner in support of their team.
Hampton had lined up in a familiar 4-2-3-1 formation. In front of Lucius Russel was a back four of Stan Smith (left); George Starr (left centre); Benjamin Egberts (right centre); and Seve Cushing (right). In front of them a defensive midfield duo of Tom Maddigan (left) and Ibrahim Nawaz (right); then an attacking midfield three of Kai Cooper (left); Devan Ghedia (centre) and skipper Joel Doherty (right); with Monday’s goal-scorer Judah Ogbaji leading the line in place of Tyler Andrew-Flower. The bench was warmed by keeper Jacob Atherton, Georgian midfielder Tim Salaghishvili, defender Zak Kubinskyy and new boy Jack Potter. Bracknell continued to have the better of the first half, with their striker Alfie Forgan receiving the ball in a prime shooting position inside the 18-yard box, but pushing his shot to the right of the goal and towards the tunnel (how he failed to hit the target, I don’t know). Bracknell’s artificial surface was one of the best I’ve seen, well maintained with no black dust rising after every challenge. The hosts were clearly very comfortable playing the ball around on it. Hampton slowly grew into the half though, and in the 25th minute Devan Ghedia did well to create something from nothing, winning the ball in midfield and playing it into the box towards Judah Ogbaji, who found himself surrounded and couldn’t get his shot away.
On the half hour mark Bracknell’s Harvey Nash was given enough space to take a stinging shot from 20-yards, but he sent it wide. Defender Benjamin Egberts went into referee Lee Murphy’s book in the 34th minute for a robust challenge just outside the area. Hampton opted for a four-man wall but Bracknell’s Harvey Nash blasted the free kick under the wall and into the bottom-left corner of the goal, Lucius Russel being unsighted by the wall and unable to reach the ball in time. Both Nash and Bracknell’s lively left-back, Tyreece Geurcelin, had been standing over the ball and I initially thought the latter had taken the kick, but I am assured it was Nash. Bracknell finished the half passing well and looking decidedly comfortable on the ball, pressing high and seeming to make Hampton panic a bit. Bracknell’s skipper, Ruben Verzuu, was yellow carded for a shirt tug on Kai Cooper in the 42nd minute. Hampton had a good chance to equalise just before the interval when Stan Smith surged forward 15 yards into the Bracknell half, playing an intelligent ball to Kai Cooper on the left, who could have shot but chose to cut inside and play Judah Ogbaji in, but he slipped and mis-kicked. One final bit of action before half time as Bracknell’s left back, Tyreece Geurcelin, went into the book for dissent. The whistle finally blew at 20:37 (the match had kicked off a bit late, there wasn’t much stoppage time at all).
Second Half
No half time substitutions for the Beavers, but some tactical changes as Tom Maddigan moved forward into the attacking three, switching with Devan Ghedia who dropped back; meanwhile Joel Doherty moved into the centre of the three. Bracknell Town’s Rohineesh Sandhu hit the crossbar in the first minute of the half, before I had even taken my place on the terraces! Hampton had a bit more purpose about them. In the 48th minute Tom Maddigan pushed forward through the centre of the pitch, playing a one-two with Kai Cooper and taking a shot which was parried away by Lyall Kennedy. In the 52nd minute Ibrahim Nawaz played a ball out towards the right when Stan Smith appeared to be in a good position on the left, nevertheless Joel Doherty claimed possession and his endeavours won a corner for Hampton. The delivery was good but Judah Ogbaji’s header was straight into Lyall Kennedy’s arms. Next Stan Smith whipped a cross in from the left and Joel Doherty connected with a glancing header, just wide of the post. The small travelling Hampton contingent sensed an equaliser and urged their team on.
In the 55th minute Tim Salaghishvili replaced Tom Maddigan in the centre of the midfield three, playing the “10” role, and he soon had an impact, picking out Joel Doherty who timed his run well as the flag stayed down, Doherty launched a shot from the edge of the box, diagonal across goal, it just whizzed past the post and out for a corner. Moments later there was a bit of panic for Hampton as Lucius Russel’s kick went straight to a Bracknell player, but the defence dealt with it. Bracknell’s Tyreece Geurcelin, always willing to offer an opinion and already on a yellow card, was given a talking to for arguing about a free kick decision. From the free kick Seve Cushing charged along the right and played in a cross which was deflected but safely into the keeper’s hands. Devan Ghedia demonstrated his strength in the 70th minute, muscling off several robust challenges before delivering a decent ball into the box. Tommy Rance reminded me to conduct a headcount, quite challenging with all of the infrastructure painted black and no light other than the floodlights, but I arrived at a figure of 49.
Some further substitutions for both sides slowed the game down a bit between the 71st and 75th minutes. Zak Kubinskyy replaced Ibrahim Nawaz and Jack Potter replaced Joel Doherty for the Beavers; with Bracknell also making a change. All hope of salvaging something from the game seemed to be lost in the 77th minute. Jude Hew blasted the ball into the top left corner of the Hampton goal after the Beavers were caught in possession. In the 81st minute Oliver Newell made an important clearance off the line to deny Judah Ogbaji, who took a shot from distance with Lyall Kennedy stranded, it was a brilliant piece of defending from Newell, who saw the danger and positioned himself accordingly to protect the goal. Humorously the referee indicated a goal kick in the 82nd minute, for something which was an obvious corner, but neither set of players noticed and just lined up for the corner accordingly, with the officials adjusting their call to reflect the play. Hampton finally got onto the scoresheet in the 83rd minute, centre back Benjamin Egberts found himself in bags of space in the area after a quick throw from Seve Cushing, the ball was played into him, he took a touch and half-volleyed the ball home. There was a strong challenge on Seve Cushing in the 90th minute, which contributed to the three additional minutes that were added. Zak Kubinskyy won a free kick just outside the penalty area in the final additional minute. Up stepped Tim Salaghishvili, his pre-match prayers (the Georgian always crosses himself as he enters the field of play) were answered, as he executed a textbook free kick over the wall and into the left corner of the goal to equalise with just seconds remaining. “Now go on and win it!” barked the unsatisfied Steve Bates from the Hampton technical area, which got a laugh from our travelling contingent, with barely 10 seconds to go!
Notes
One of the officials tonight, Anna Evans, wore a yellow armband which I am told indicates an official who is under the age of 18. She and the other officials generally had a good evening’s work, managing the game well, although there were no real controversies. One of Bracknell Town’s coaches, Martin, kindly obtained the home team sheet for me after the game to help with the report.

Badshot Lea Under 18s 2-3 Hampton & Richmond Borough Under 18s
Monday, 2nd March 2026, 19:45 Kick-off
Isthmian Youth League, West Division
Westfield Lane, Wrecclesham
Pre-Match/Build-up
Tommy Rance picked me up in Whitton at 18:15 and we headed over to Sunbury to meet Casey Jones and then join the M3 for tonight's Isthmian Youth League, West Division fixture against Badshot Lea - who are a better side than their league position suggests. Interestingly the club play nowhere near the village of Badshot Lea, but rather the other side of Farnham near the locale of Wrecclesham. We travelled along the M3 as far as Junction 4 (Farnborough), heading south along the A331 towards Aldershot. In player news this week, former academy player Charlie George was on the bench for Steve Bates' Carshalton Athletic at the weekend; while another former academy man, Freddie Greenstreet, appeared for Molesey. Teghan Souyana, who featured for the Academy Under 18s (Allied Counties League side) during the 2023/24 season was on the bench for Sandhurst Town tonight.
It was a cool enough evening, with the temperature 9°c as we turned onto Ash Road then along the Lower Farnham Road (union flags were affixed to every lamppost in this part of the staunch garrison town of Aldershot). After a bit of a diversion and some traffic outside of Farnham, we arrived into the Surrey village of Wrecclesham at 19.26. We weren't the only ones delayed in traffic: kick-off was pushed back until 8pm due to a match official arriving late! Badshot Lea charged £5 for adults and £3 for concessions, accepting cash or card. Having been joined by Robin Moseley, we conducted the obligatory walkaround of the ground before kick-off. Hampton's injured Jack Griffin was present in the crowd this evening to support his team mates. The clubhouse was open as was the refreshments bar, serving hot and cold food.
First Half
The match was eventually kicked off by Badshot Lea's Beau Oliphant at 20:06 (Tommy Rance had informed the officials present that he is a qualified linesman for this level of football and offered to help, but the late running official was almost there by this point). Hampton wore their all-royal blue away kit with Lucius Russel in all-flourescent green in goal; Badshot Lea sported claret and sky blue halved shirts with claret shorts and socks. Their goalkeeper had a nice aqua kit. Hampton lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. In front of Russel was a defensive four of Jack Potter (right), George Starr (right centre), Benjamin Egberts (left centre) and Stan Smith (left); then a midfield two of Archie McKenna (right) and Ibrahim Nawaz (left); behind an attacking midfield trio of Tyler Andrew-Flower (right), Kai Cooper (centre) and skipper Joel Doherty (left). Unusually Seve Cushing, ordinarily at right back, started the evening leading the front line. In the technical area for Hampton tonight were Anthony Weir, Johnny Doherty, Martyn Hyde and Alan Smith. Steve Bates and Kieran Jackson were not present. An early corner, taken by Joel Doherty, was headed away by the first man at the near post, then in the sixth minute Ibrahim Nawaz played a cross in towards Doherty but his shot was blocked by the defence. It all went wrong for Hampton in the 11th minute as Ibrahim Nawaz conceded a penalty and earned himself a place in Lee Murphy's notebook. The penalty was taken by Ben Jordan and blasted into the bottom right corner, 1-0 to the hosts.
Badshot Lea are a physical and robust side and there were challenges flying in from all angles as Hampton attacked down the right. To Mr Murphy's credit, he was generally happy to allow the game to flow, having a word when required but letting both teams play their game. Badshot Lea's grass surface is known for being a bit muddy and patchy at this time of year and the pitch lent itself to the type of contest that was emerging. Both goalmouths were muddy with sand having been applied. In the 21st minute Hampton won a corner. Again, Joel Doherty found the first man as Badhsot Lea's Kit Littlefield headed clear. In the 24th minute though Hampton made a corner count. Stan Smith took the kick and found Jack Potter who sent a powerful header into the back of the net. When was the last time one full back set up the other in this way?
Around the 35th minute Hampton switched Seve Cushing with Tyler Andrew-Flower, the latter stepping forward to lead the line. I'm not saying this change affected the next events, but just a minute later Hampton were in the lead. Kai Cooper received the ball from Nawaz, finding himself with space inside the penalty area. He composed himself and slotted the ball into the far corner. 2-1 Hampton! The Beavers continued to pressure with the game completely turned on its head. A free kick taken from the right into the danger zone was bundled into the net by Badshot Lea's Captain, Fred Jameson, for an own goal. Jameson had been under pressure from Hampton's George Starr and both players were on the deck for a while after the goal. Hampton's work rate had been good this half, the Middlesex side doing well to turn things around. In the final action of the half Ibrahim Nawaz tripped a home player and was given a talking to, with the Bangladeshi international already on a yellow, you felt this was the last discretion he would receive. Lucius Russel saved from the resulting play. The half time whistle blew at 20:56 after four minutes of additional time. Noticing that I was taking photographs of items on the wall in the clubhouse, the barman kindly opened up a separate room which housed trophies and some old shirts on the walls and explained a little bit about them.
Second Half
Tyler Andrew-Flower got the second half underway. Badshot Lea almost immediately stated their intent to get back into the game when Louis Everitt scored with a beautiful curled effort into the top corner, as the home side attacked the east/turnstiles end. A few minutes later a free kick for the home side was struck by Reece Nareham but hit the wall (Joel Doherty's face, to be precise). The resulting break in play gave me a chance to walk around and count the crowd, I made it 54 in attendance this evening. Hampton hadn't been as good this half, being sluggish on the ball with Badshot Lea creating most of the chances. Kai Cooper clashed with home keeper Jonas Cody, with both players hitting the deck and loud appeals from both sides amounting to nothing. Kai Cooper's limp quickly reverted to a full-on sprint when the ball returned to play! In the 68th minute Hampton brought on forward Ikay Ozoani and made some tactical changes: Seve Cushing reverted to his familiar right back position, Ibrahim Nawaz moved up into midfield, Jack Potter went to centre half. The home side made a double substitution in the 73rd minute then Hampton brought on Zak Kubinskyy for Tyler Andrew-Flower (who had done more running than usual tonight due to both his wide positioning in the first half and the way the play went).
Lucius Russel had to be alert in the 81st minute, a great reaction block followed by a double save as Badshot Lea piled the pressure on searching for their equaliser. In all honesty it wasn't the best half for Hampton who struggled to generate any momentum. An opportunity to put the fixture to bed was squandered in the 85th minute when Ikay Ozoani blasted over the crossbar just after Joel Doherty had a shot of his own parried away. After a delay in play for injured home skipper Fred Jameson, play resumed and Hampton attacked down the left flank, but Doherty's cross was several yards from connecting with any of Hampton's tiring legs. In the 88th minute Kai Cooper struck a powerful shot directly at Jonas Cody in the home goal. Hampton managed to hold out for a valuable win which saw the Beavers go top of the table, albeit with title rivals Northwood holding two games in hand.

I don't think so, that Phil Ruggles is currently manager of Ash United. Looked at his photo, can't place him as one of yesterday's officials, but not 100% sure.

Hampton & Richmond Borough Under 18s 0-3 Aldershot Town Under 18s
Monday, 9th March 2026, 19:45 Kick-off
Isthmian Youth League, West Division
Bedfont Sports Club
Pre-Match/Build-up
Tommy Rance picked me up at 6.50pm from the corner of Bridge Way and Short Way in Whitton and we headed over to Sunbury to meet Casey Jones before making our way over to Bedfont Sports for the first of three consecutive Monday evening ‘home’ fixtures for Hampton’s Under 18s side. Tonight, Aldershot Town were the visitors for an Isthmian Youth League, West Division fixture. With the Shots lingering ninth in the league table (the league consisting of just 10 sides), we arrived with high hopes. The clubhouse was busier than usual, there had clearly been some kind of match or training taking place earlier on, and there was also a darts match taking place. The injured Jack Griffin was in attendance and sat on the bench with his team mates, as did goalkeeper Lucius Russel, who was also not named in the squad tonight. Our fellow Hampton supporter Jack Pinsent joined us at the ground.
First Half
Hampton wore their red shirts, red shorts and navy socks, with Jacob Atherton in goal wearing all fluorescent green; while Aldershot sported an all-yellow outfield kit with their goalkeeper in all light blue. Aldershot’s Captain, Koby Kircher, kicked proceedings off at 19:48, slightly behind schedule, as the visitors shot towards the west/allotment end of the ground in the first half. For Hampton, Finn McGreevy returned to the squad after recent trials with Wycombe Wanderers; in the technical area for Hampton tonight were Steve Bates, Martyn Hyde, Johnny Doherty and Adam Smith. Hampton lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Jacob Atherton in goal; behind a defensive unit of Stan Smith (left), George Starr (left centre), Benjamin Egberts (right centre) and Jack Potter (right); a midfield duo of Archie McKenna (left) and Ibrahim Nawaz (right) sat in front of the defence; followed by an attacking midfield three of Finn McGreevy (right), Devan Ghedia (centre) and Kai Cooper (left); Tyler Andrew-Flower led the front line. An early Hampton corner was played low and didn’t clear the first man at the near post, in fact the Beavers would waste plenty of set pieces as the evening progressed. A header by Devan Ghedia was the only clear-cut opportunity in the first 10 minutes or so.
Aldershot’s Elliot Kitchen, who likes to drive forward along the left, played a couple of crosses into the box but they were easily dealt with. In the 16th minute Kai Cooper’s misplaced pass handed possession to Aldershot who took their throw quickly, with another cross being played in, but Hampton’s Jacob Atherton looked assured as he collected the ball. Jack Potter blasted a shot just over the crossbar from close range after cutting inside and turning past the defender in the 23rd minute, but there was little other action of note. Ibrahim Nawaz was receiving several instructions from the bench about his positioning. In the 29th minute Finn McGreevy did well to take the ball around Aldershot’s Ryan Maclean and deliver a teasing ball into the danger zone, but nobody was there to greet it. There was a break in play for an injury to an Aldershot player around the 35th minute, after which Stan Smith delivered a cross into the area, McGreevy came closest to scoring for Hampton, blasting his strike at the keeper from close range, he may be disappointed with that one. Jack Potter was putting in a good shift at right back and demonstrated some great sprinting to catch an Aldershot player and put the ball out of play for a throw-in. The last action of a fairly dull half was a Hampton free kick whipped into the area by Stan Smith but just above the heads of everyone in the box.
Second Half
Jack Potter took a shot from range in the 47th minute after some good early possession for the Beavers; Aldershot unusually made a change shortly afterwards, I’m unsure whether this was tactical or prompted by injury, as Riley Hadley replaced Elliot Kitchen. After a promising opening few minutes of the half, it all went downhill for Hampton. In the 51st minute the visitors took the lead. With most of Hampton’s squad pressing forward for a free kick, the kick was taken short to Ibrahim Nawaz who was dispossessed, and Aldershot’s Jacob Chrismas was able to run the length of the pitch unchallenged, burying his shot into the bottom left corner, a terrible lapse of concentration from the Beavers. Hampton made changes soon after with a quadruple substitution and a new formation. Tom Maddigan replaced Ibrahim Nawaz in the middle; Tim Salaghishili came on for Devan Ghedia; Judah Ogbaji replaced Tyler Andrew-Flower up front; and Seve Cushing replaced Finn McGreevy. Hampton switched to a 3-5-2 as they sought a more attacking formation.
Shortly before the substitutions, Jacob Atherton in Hampton’s goal had punched a free kick away, getting a bit lost in no man’s land as he attempted to get hold of the ball, with Jack Potter flicking the shot over the bar, a great piece of defending, Potter is probably my Man of the Match for Hampton tonight. The changes made by Hampton didn’t stop the onslaught from the visitors though. Jacob Atherton was called upon again to make a good reaction save, punching the ball away for a corner. Aldershot made a couple of substitutions during a break in play on the hour mark. Aldershot’s Malakai Gamblin-Green was rightly handed a yellow card in the 65th minute for a tough tackle from behind on Kai Cooper, which deliberately stamped out a promising move for Hampton. Judah Ogbaji had the best chance of the half, his sharp header forcing a great save from the Aldershot keeper. Benjamin Egberts was substituted off and passed the Captain’s armband to Archie McKenna. I conducted a headcount of the crowd around the 75th minute and came to a figure of 42.
Aldershot’s Gabriel Wall was a livewire in the centre of the park and kept on stealing the ball from Hampton. In the 81st minute one of his endeavours led to a second goal for Aldershot, with Joel Johnson-Cole heading home after being set up by Wall. Aldershot went for a drink break while their goalkeeper received some treatment. “We could play for another 45 minutes and not score”, noted one of my fellow Beavers fans. An unexpected corner for Hampton, which almost certainly should have been a goal kick in reality, was crossed in towards George Starr at the back post, but his header was just wide. In the first minute of stoppage time Aldershot put the icing on the cake with a third goal, scored by Max Howells, weirdly all three Aldershot scorers ran straight to the corner flag and kicked it for their celebration… not sure what that’s about! Deep into stoppage time the visitors nearly added a fourth, with Jacob Atherton pushing the attempt over the bar. A miserable evening all round really.
