THOSE WERE THE DAYS
10th March 1987
London Senior Cup Quarter-Final
Haringey Borough 1(Bailey 44’) Hampton 2 (Mooney 10’, Rice 63’) Att; 178
Hampton;-
Paul Riley; Gary Gerson, Bobby Green, Gary Cambridge, Tim Hollands, Sean O’Connell, Sean Rice, Malcolm Dickenson, Lee Mooney, Horace Nelson, Zarak Shafique.
Hampton reached the semi-final of the London Senior Cup with a narrow win over Haringey Borough at White Hart Lane (no, not that one). Division Two North Borough made life very difficult for the First Division side. Gursel Gulfer, formerly of Walton & Hersham, almost gave the hosts the lead in the opening minutes but Riley pulled off a tremendous save. In the 10th minute Hampton took the lead when Mooney executed a spectacular overhead kick which gave Haringey’s keeper no chance. Moments before the half-time break, Haringey equalised when Bailey raced through to score comfortably. In the 63rd minute a strike by Money was parried away but only as far as Rice who scored from close range. It would take Hampton four, yes, 4, matches to dispose of Erith & Belvedere in the semi-final (no penalty shoot-outs, just keep playing until the least exhausted team gets through). Hampton would lose 2-1 to Kingstonian in the final.
