29th January 1985
Perry Tunesi Testimonial Match
Hampton 0 Fulham 4 Att; 615
Hampton;-
Chris Vagg; Robert Winterhalter, Malcolm Dickenson, Richard Smith, Tim Hollands, Steve Rogers (Mark Wilson, 45’), Perry Tunesi (Brian Lake, 68), Ian Rae (Sean O’Connell, 45’), Mick Heselden, Ricky Walkes (John Hales, 59’), Dwight Marshall.
Fulham;-
Iain Hesford; Gary Elkins, Cliff Carr, John Marshall, Jeff Hopkins, Kevin Lock, Leroy Rosenior, Peter Scott (Steve Freeman, 45), Kenny Achpombe, Ray Houghton, Ray Lewington.
Perry Tunesi was the first Hampton player to be awarded a Testimonial Season (whilst still playing for the club), having made his debut at the age of 16 in August 1974, and he would go on to make 380 appearances (inc subs) and score 54 goals before retiring at the end of 1985/86. Nicknamed ‘Teach’, he went on to have a successful career in Education at the highest level. As for the game itself, a rain-soaked night in front of the largest crowd to grace Beveree for a few seasons, saw Fulham run out 4-0 winners. In the 28th minute Houghton’s cross was turned in by Scott. On the hour mark, Rosenior turned in another Houghton cross. Carr scored Fulham’s third in the 81st minute after Rosenior had created an opening. A minute later Achpombe and Freeman between them set up a chance for Rosenior to head home the final goal of the evening.
