THOSE WERE THE DAYS
21st April 2018
National (Vanarama) League; South
St Albans City 1 (Banton 40’) HRBFC 3 (Wassmer 10’, Jeffers, 45’, Roberts 78’) Att; 1,021
HRBFC;-
Seny Dieng; Sam Long, Josh Casey, Jack Cook, Charlie Wassmer, Shaun McAuley (Michael Kamara, 90’), Taurean Roberts, James Mulley, Shaun Jeffers (Elliott Charles, 90’), Brendan Kiernan, Bradley Hudson-Odoi (Ben Wynter, 74').
Unused subs; Luke Sheldrick (Gk), Dylan Randall.
A comprehensive 3-1 win on the road confirmed the Beavers in a play-off spot. Hampton took the lead after just ten minutes, a Casey corner was cleared away to the opposite corner to be met by Kiernan’s out-swinging cross that was put away by the ‘big man’ Wassmer, his header beat Saints keeper Dean Snedker. Wassmer got away with a clear push in the Hampton penalty area before the home side equalised with five minutes to go before half-time. Dieng came out to punch the ball away but it only found Zane Banton who scored with a drive through a crowd of players. Hampton got the lead back, just before half-time. Kiernan found Jeffers in space, Snedker came out to block the shot but Jeffers was able to retrieve the ball, taking it round the keeper and side-footing into the open goal. On the hour Sam Merson had an opportunity to level the score again but Dieng forced Merson wide and the shot, when it came, only found the side netting. With 12 minutes to go, Roberts applied the coup-de-grace. The midfielder struck a curling shot from 25 yards out, finding the top corner.
