THOSE WERE THE DAYS
24th April 2000
Isthmian (Ryman) League; Premier Division
Walton & Hersham 1 (White ) HRBFC 3 (Maskel 13’, Griffiths 23’, Williams 33’) Att; 303
Walton & Hersham; Adrian Blake; Garfield Blackman, Luke Dowling, Alan Dowson, Chris Whelan, Francis Dolan, Darren White, Gary Holloway, Marcus Rose, Greg Ball, Ross Pickett.
Subs; Marc Coates, David Adekola, Liam Collins.
HRBFC;-
Rob Frankland; Peter Wood (Fiston Mputu), Danny Smith, Peter Barnsby, Nick Burton, Jason Shaw, Dudley Gardner, Martin Carter. Craig Maskell, Leroy Griffiths, Warren Williams.
Unused Subs; Gary Robinson (Gk), Darren Adams.
Hampton started sluggishly, losing out to Walton in the midfield. After an uneventful thirteen minutes, the next twenty were a bit of a surprise. A hopeful lob from Burton should have been dealt with by Adian Blake, but the ball bounced off his chest into the path of a grateful Maskell who dealt with the opportunity, accordingly. Ten minutes later Williams ran down to the bye line, crossed for Gardner whose shot was parried by Blake straight into the path of Griffiths, 2-0. Greg Ball had a chance to pull a goal back but scuffed his shot wide A minute later and it was 3-0, Williams received the ball with his back to the goal, swivelled and hit a low drive into the far-right corner. Before half time Walton scored with a well taken free-kick by Darren White. No goals in the second half as Hampton enjoyed the spring sunshine and the win. Oh, and Alan Dowson was booked by Referee A Harvey.
