Twelve months after Salford City travelled to Beveree for a pre-season friendly, the Beavers made the reverse journey (the two teams had shared a 1-1 draw back in August 2015). Salford City were preparing for their first season in National League North. In the first half Hippolyte-Patrick quite often had the beating of Salford’s full back, Stephen O’Halloran. Salford keeper, Jay Lynch had to dive to cut out a dangerous cross, then Kabamba almost finished off another cross as Hippolyte-Patrick enjoyed his stint out wide. The Beavers took the lead in the 20th minute with the only goal of the game. A 30 yard free-kick, by Jolley, was met by the leaping Gasson and the ball ended in the top corner. In the second half Salford picked up their game, however it wasn’t until the 74th minute that Craig King went close with a header. Neither of Hampton’s two keepers, Howe or Bishop had much to do as Salford offered little threat.
