Having led for the majority of the opening game of the 2013/14, Hampton ended up with nil points as Margate came back to win, late in the second half. No blame could be attached to the weather (warm & sunny) or the pitch (in perfect condition). Matt Bodkin proved to be a thorn in the side of the Beavers. As early as the 18th minute he forced Chiweshe into a save. Hampton took an unlikely lead in the 25th minute. Moone was felled by a clumsy challenge by John Beales, placing the resultant penalty just inside the post. The second half saw Margate gradually take control of the game. In the 69th minute Joe Vines made a run down the right, his cross was nodded home by Phil Walsh, levelling the score. With ten minutes left Chiweshe denied Charles Ademeno, seemingly saving a point. However, with seconds remaining Margate secured the win. Lance Azeez made room on the right and sent over a looping cross that was met by a Bodkin header from close range.
