Season 2004/05 got off to a great start for Hampton, played four, won four and top of the Premier Division. Redbridge, on the other hand, had only managed two draws. So, should be relatively easy. In the end it was, but it almost went horribly wrong in the first minute. The usually reliably Fernandes, opted for a back pass to Lovett. Rebridge’s David Apala was on the ball in a flash and it took a full-length dive from Lovett to turn the ball away for a corner. Fernandes redeemed himself in the 15th minute when he laid the ball on for Quarm to rifle the ball in from twenty yards. Hampton extended the lead in the 26th minute when Paris stooped to head in a cross from Quarm. Redbridge struggled to get into the game, the hosts couldn’t deal with Hampton’s quick passing and running off the ball, and they didn’t help themselves by giving away numerous free-kicks. Redbridge were reduced to ten men in the 47th minute. Jay Roberts, who had only come on at the start of the second half, brought an end to a Sodje run, deep into Redbridge territory. In the sweltering conditions the match slowed with Hampton content to play the out the game. Ten minutes from time Simon Downer brought out an excellent save from Lovett. Hampton on their best start since 1969/70.
