THOSE WERE THE DAYS
March 30th 1993
Isthmian League (Diadora) Division 2

Hampton 3 Leatherhead 2 Att; 187
Hollands, Kuhne, Rabbetts

David Hook; Tony Parker, Malcolm Dickenson, Chris Ellwood, Steve Cheshire, Tim Hollands, Gary Cope, Lee Rabbetts, Steve Kuhne, Micky Beadle, Paul Reed (Roger Beadle).
Sub unused; Simon Edwards

An oddity! In 18 previous meetings between Hampton & Leatherhead, the home side had failed to win – that is until this game. Hollands and Kuhne gave the Beavers a half-time lead. Leatherhead pulled one back before Rabbetts restored the two goal lead. A second goal by Leatherhead wasn’t enough to deprive Hampton of three points – though they did rattle the crossbar, late on.
Lee Rabbetts was a prolific scorer for the Under 18 team before making the step up to the first team. Sadly, I recall that Rabbetts was to die at a young age after, I believe, being diagnosed with Leukaemia.

An odd side, that one. Some players who should really have been playing higher mixed with, well, errr, others!
Had no idea about Lee Rabbetts, a very good player indeed at that age. RIP.
