Despite three goals in a four-minute spell by Fossick, Hampton still lost out to a late goal as Chertsey won this season opener at Beveree. Chertsey took the lead through Nicholson in the 20th minute. Nicholson increased Chertsey’s lead early in the second half before Fossick netted his rapid hat-trick. Chertsey came back to equalise through Crabb but then went on to take the two points when Nicholson drove in the winner from some twenty yards out.
Fossick would go on to score two more hat-tricks in Hampton’s next two games, 4-0 and 4-1 victories.
