THOSE WERE THE DAYS
October 15th 1983

Slough Town 3 Hampton 2
Russell 2

Paul Riley; Richard Smith, Tim Hollands, Steve Rogers, Steve Smith, Perry Tunesi, Steve Russell, Peter Shodeinde, Mick Heselden, Sean O’Connell, Alec MacFarlane.
Sub; Brian Lake

What an irony! Hampton, who once made F A Cup history by scoring the first-ever direct goal direct from a goalkeeper’s clearance in the competition, were beaten in the same manner at Slough Town.
The winning goal in this F A Cup tie was scored by Slough keeper, Frank Parsons. Parson’s kick, from the hands, in the 60th minute got caught in the gusting wind, sailed over the Hampton defenders and bounced over his opposite number, Paul Riley, into the net. It was a replica of the goal scored by Alan Cooling for Hampton against Barnet, six years earlier.
Hampton led twice, Steve Russell after 18 minutes, Atwell equalising five minutes into the second half. Hampton regained the lead in the 56th minute through Russell, with his second header. Doherty got Staines on level terms in the 59th minute, followed a minute later by Parson’s stunning goal.
