THOSE WERE THE DAYS
8th December 1962
Surrey Senior League
Farncombe 1 Hampton 1
Brown

Joe Andrews; Brian Eastman, Roger Blackmore, Peter Jennings, Ken Brown, Don Bevan, Jakie Cooper, Brian Hearne, Joe Dowling, Georgie Hill, Billy Groves.

The two goalkeepers, Rose – for Farnborough, and Andrews – for Hampton, were responsible for keeping the score to 1-1. Early into the game Crouch forced Andrews into a save. For Hampton, Hill and Groves were combining well, creating gaps in the home defence. On the half hour the visitors took the lead through centre-half Brown, this time Rose was unable to get anywhere near the ball as it rocketed past him. Twice before half time Rose prevented Hampton adding to their lead, Hearne and Groves being denied. Farncombe came out strong in the second half, Hampton defenders having to resort to ‘tough’ measures. With just ten minutes to go Farncombe were awarded a penalty when Newman was tripped. Newman took the kick himself and scored. Both sides had chances to win the game but both keepers stood firm.
