A 3-1 loss at Braintree was the 6th consecutive defeat ‘on the road’. Definitely a case of severe travel sickness, especially when compared to the excellent home form shown by the same set of players. Braintree hit the ground running and were 3-0 up by half-time, with the game seemingly done and dusted. Mark Graham, Andy Pevell and Andy Porter scoring for the home side. Late in the first half Fontana injured himself making a challenge and was replaced by Currie. During the interval Hampton Manager Alan Devonshire took off Elverson and Harper, bringing on Fernandes and Gardner. Devonshire then strung five players across the midfield to make life difficult for Braintree. Braintree’s Manager George Borg, wanting more effort from his players, got rather over-excited and had to be spoken to by Referee Chris Francis. Hampton’s first shot on target resulted in a goal, Jarvis heading in his sixth goal of the season. Hampton almost got a second but Currie’ s effort was saved by Danny Gay at his near post.
