An exciting end to what was largely a drab affair in front of our biggest crowd of the season (1770). It felt much like the recent Weston game where we seemed content to cede the flanks to the opposition and defend a succession of crosses. Midfield was poor and largely bypassed by defenders trying to find Seymour with long clearances. Seymour had our best of very few chances when clean through but hit his shot just wide and getting taken out by the onrushing keeper. Slough had the lion’s share of the game but like Weston lacked a finisher. Second half was a repeat of the same until sub Afinowose found the corner with a low drive from the edge of the area following a corner after 77 mins. Very much against the run of play up until that point. Slough looked to have got their just desserts with an 89th minute header from close range- finally one of their crosses found a man unmarked in the box. That looked it until Afinowose’s delightful cross found Seymour at the back post for a poachers tap in to make it 2-1in added time. Hard to see how Afinowose doesn’t start from now on. His energy and directness was in stark contrast to a very anonymous midfield three today. Keeper and back three all excellent again. Midfield not so good.

Great win in a fairly uneventful encounter. This team never know when they're beaten, great spirit shown and some brilliantly worked and well-taken goals. Brilliant start to 2024.

And very pleasing to see such a great crowd today. We should break 2,000 if this run continues.

Pretty fair summary from Tony. Fernandez back in the defence made it a lot stronger. Shows how we miss Inman although Wishart helped out tremendously.. The introduction of Anifowese made a difference , he got the opening goal and made the winner, can’t belong before he gets a starting spot.
Slough played well and had the majority possession but poor finishing let them down. Player Manager Davis was always in the right place to direct things having given himself a free role in midfield.
Onto the next tricky game at Braintree.

He mentioned his comments with our supporters!
Felt they should have got a draw , not surprised. Our goals were defence mistakes.

Some of their players did struggle to maintain their footing but the ref was wise to the theatrics

Slough did have a lot of possession, but much like WSM did not get much on target, apart from their goal.
Hampton had the better of the chances, and could really have taken the lead in the first half, when a through ball found Seymour, who should have got his effort on target, but it went wide under pressure.
Slough ended the half strongly, and we seemed to struggle to clear the ball, at times, but again they didn't really get anything on target.
They started the second half brightly, but their shots only really troubled the trees.
The game came to life with just under half an hour to go, when Josh Anifowose struck a long range effort that crept in.
Just as Hampton looked to be holding out for the win, the hero from Boxing Day, Spasov rose to head home and equaliser, much to the delight of the recently substituted player manager - Scott Davies.
Ben Seymour struck in the first minute of added on time to earn Hampton the three points.

Didn’t think the ref had a poor game, we have seen several female refs this season and too date they have not been too bad.
