THOSE WERE THE DAYS
1st January 1983
Isthmian League (Servowarm) Division 1
Hampton 2 Epsom & Ewell 0
Sharratt 2

Paul Riley; Peter Bartlett, Tim Hollands, Richard Smith, Gary Maynard, John Chilvers, Perry Tunesi, Roy Botterill, Mick Heselden, Peter Sharratt, Brian Lake.
Sub; Mark Cobb

Hampton completed a festive double over Epsom & Ewell but there was little to get the large crowd excited as both teams seemed to be suffering from hangovers. Apart from two long range shots by Tunesi and Chilvers the first half passed very quietly. New signing Botterill settled down in midfield during the second half and it started to seem that Hampton were always about to take control. In the 75th minute Sharratt rose above the Epsom defence and headed in a Chilvers free-kick - his first goal for the club. Epsom’s keeper, Chapman, then made a great save to deny Sharratt a second, however he was not to be denied and in the 81st minute got onto the end of a Hollands flick and slammed the ball past Chapman. An interesting statistic from the game was that Tunesi, aged 24, was the oldest player in the Hampton side.
