THOSE WERE THE DAYS
25th January 1964
Surrey Senior League
Vickers Armstrong 1 Hampton 6
Griffin (p), Dowling, Bevan, Whing, 2 ogs

Joe Andrews; Gerry Biggs, Roger Blackmore, Peter Jennings, Ron King, Don Bevan, Jakie Cooper, Ron Griffin, Johnny Whing, Joe Dowling, Billy Groves.

It was a pleasant January day (apparently), and an excellent playing surface and Hampton took full advantage. In the 15th minute Cooper was brought down, Griffin converting the penalty for the opening goal. Cooper, Whing and Griffin combined to set up a header for Dowling, 2-0. Early in the second half, Cooper and the Vickers left-back accidentally collided, both continued, but Cooper was troubled for the remainder of the contest. Bevan struck Hampton’s third with a fierce drive, followed shortly when a Groves attempt was deflected in for an own goal. Vicker got into the game with a goal in the 65th minute, when a shot went in off the crossbar. Five minutes from time, Whing, robbed the right back and lobbed the keeper for the fifth, two minutes later the harassed left back attempted a pass back to his, out of position, keeper and watched the ball roll into the net for a 6-1 victory.
