THOSE WERE THE DAYS
18th February 1985
London Senior Cup 1st Round
Croydon 1 Hampton 5 (Marshall 2, Heselden 2, Walkes)

Chris Vagg; Robert Winterhalter, Malcolm Dickenson, Tim Hollands, Steve Smith, Richard Smith, Perry Tunesi, Fred Wilson, Ricky Walkes, Mick Heselden, Dwight Marshall.
Unused Sub; Ian Rae

A pair of Hampton Manager, Roger Charland’s boots was the key to this emphatic victory. It wasn’t Charland who wore them, but it was Marshall who did to score a brace of goals. The Croydon pitch was icy and Marshall didn’t have the right footwear, so he borrowed the rubber soled boots for the game. Marshall’s first goal came in the second minute as he slid the ball under keeper, Terry Fell. Walkes added the second in the 20th minute. Just before half time, Dickenson set up Heselden who slammed the ball past Fell. In the second half, Marshall scored with a left foot shot, and Heselden lobbed the keeper for his second and Hampton’s fifth. Croydon scored a late consolation through Mark Denton.
