THOSE WERE THE DAYS
4th March 1995
Isthmian League (Diadora) Division 2
Hampton 2 (Bere, Bardini) Barton Rovers 1

Mark Russell; Brian Bere, Kevin Duffell, Jon Reilly (Steve Liles), Steve Cheshire, Warren Drew, Dave Crook, Dave Rattue, Lee Bardini, Darren Smith, Nko Ekoku.
Unused Subs; Tom Maloney, Trevor McCoy

Hampton completed a league double over Barton Rovers (having won 3-2, away). Ekoku was the main man, despite not getting on the scoresheet. Ekoku ran Rovers ragged all game long, with his extraordinary pace and could have scored three times in the first fifteen minutes. Russell was equally busy in the Hampton goal, denying Tommy Doyle and clutching a shot by Danny Driscoll. In the 17th minute, Bere managed to hoof a shot over the trees from just six yards, but managed to make amends two minutes later when he headed in Rattue’s corner. On 25 minutes Bardini finished well for the second goal after Smith knocked on a Bere pass. Just before half time Bere went close to a third goal when his shot from a Crooks cross was blocked on the line. Ekoku went close twice early in the second half, gradually though second-placed Barton Rovers got back into the game when Richard Camp scored late on from a long kick-in from the left (remember those?). Hampton should have had a third but Smith’s effort was kicked off the line.
