THOSE WERE THE DAYS
21st April 2018
National (Vanarama) League (South)
St Albans City 1 HRBFC 3 (Wassmer, Jeffers, Roberts) Att; 1,021
Seny Dieng; Sam Long, Josh Casey, Jack Cook, Charlie Wassmer, Shaun McAuley (Michael Kamara, 90’), Taureen Roberts, James Mulley, Shaun Jeffers (Elliott Charles,90’), Brendan Kiernan, Bradley Hudson-Adoi (Ben Wynter,74’).
Unused subs; Luke Sheldrick (Gk), Dylan Randall.
Hampton caught St Albans on an off-day as they secured a play-off place with this 3-1 away win. After 10 minutes a partially cleared corner was swept back in by Kiernan, to be met with a bullet header by Wassmer. On the half hour a Sam Merson long throw needed a goal line clearance by Casey. Five minutes before half time a mis-placed punch by Dieng was struck with some force by Zene Barton to level the scores. The home side relaxed momentarily and following a City corner, the Beavers, led by Kiernan, attacked the length of the pitch and laid the ball into the path of Jeffers. The initial strike was saved by Dean Snedker, but Jeffers retrieved the situation and side footed the ball home. With an hour gone, Merson had a chance to give the home side the lead but his shot struck the side netting. It was left to Roberts to supply the coup-de-grace with a powerful, curling shot from some 25 yards that left Snedker pawing the air.
