THOSE WERE THE DAYS
30TH April 1985
Isthmian (Servowarm) League Division 1
Boreham Wood 1 Hampton 1 (Heselden)

Chris Vagg; Robert Winterhalter, Malcolm Dickenson, Steve Rogers, Steve Smith, Tim Hollands, Perry Tunesi, Mark Wilson, Ricky Walkes, Mick Heselden, Dwight Marshall.

Hampton were 30 seconds from beating Boreham Wood on their own patch, in this late season Tuesday night game, when the home side equalised with the last action of the game. Heselden missed an early chance but made amends in the 27th minute when he headed in a Rogers free kick. The gusty wind was playing havoc with crosses but Hampton’s keeper Vagg wasn’t under much pressure. Boreham Wood should have had an equaliser in the first half but Leroy Rhodes shot wide just before the interval. Wilson almost added a second goal but his shot cleared the bar, when in a good position. With the game almost done and dusted the windy conditions led to the equaliser. A wind-assisted cross was met at the far post by the head of Gursel Gulfer.
A few days later Hampton Manager, Roger Charland, resigned (according to the club), and Steve Rogers would be appointed in due course.
