Hampton followed up their 2-1 win over Southall with a comprehensive win at lowly Petersfield United. Hampton scored three goals in the first half, the only surprise was that it took until the 23rd minute to open their account. Walkes’ cross deflected off a home defender for a corner at the top of their sloping pitch. Dalton’s corner was headed out to the edge of the penalty area, to be met by Rattue, who hit a rasping low volley into the far bottom corner. The second goal came from a long ball from Dalton which deflected to Walkes who, twisting and turning, made space for a curling shot that beat Parkin, the home keeper. The third goal was provided, again, by Dalton, his cross-field run ended with a misjudged defender’s back pass which Kuhne swept neatly into the net. The second half was probably a bit of an anti-climax as Hampton only managed one more goal, much to the disappointment of the travelling supporters. In the 76th minute Dickenson’s long ball was headed on by Kajdi to Walkes who, again, finding space, found the back of the net for the second time. The win put Hampton into the top half of the table for the first time in the season.
