Battling for the Spartan League championship, Hampton collected a valuable two points with a 1-0 win at Staines Town. Peter Minor was injured so Smith came in at left back and McCormack became substitute instead of John McLintock. The game was a lively affair. Staines attacked from the start, Wheeler bursting through, Earl racing over to clear the danger. Two minutes before half time, Staines were awarded a penalty but Andrews, Man of the Match, dived to save Wheeler’s effort then saved the follow up before beating Bending to the loose ball. In the 65th minute Allen left the field with a bleeding head to be replaced by McCormack. With twenty minutes to go Hampton secured the points, Rowlands fierce shot was partially blocked by Peter Archer but the onrushing McCormack raced in to fire the ball into the net.

Yes he was competing with other wide players at that time for a regular spot. He later played at Staines.
